Emergency! NY State Senate Dems Plan to Ban Doctors from Wearing Ties

Some things are just too absurd for words.

In a fashion emergency, members of the Independent Democratic Conference in the New York state Senate are proposing a “law that would prohibit doctors from wearing neckties while working” — because ONE study “shows bacteria may build-up on neckties and lead to infection.”

Is this new news? No. When was this study conducted, you ask?

In 2004, Steven Nurkin, a 27-year-old American medical student at Israel’s Technion University, came up with the idea for the study while doing an elective course at New York Hospital Queens. Nurkin noticed that when doctors bent over to examine patients “their neckties would swing onto the bedding or onto the patient” and often “got coughed on or came into contact with a variety of other things.”

Nurkin’s scientific study included examination of “42 ties of doctors and clinical workers at the New York hospital and found that 20 of them — or 48% — carried at least one infectious microbe.” Nurkin’s control sample came from the “ties of 10 security guards who don’t come into direct contact with patients. Only one of the ties carried a disease-causing microorganism.”

However, Nurkin conceded his study “did not find direct evidence that ties can cause infections, but it showed the potential risk.”

While Israel Steiner, a professor of neurobiology and expert in infections of the nervous system at Hebrew University, agreed “any additional risk by neckties is probably minimal,” he added “doctors’ clothes, medical equipment and jewelry are all exposed to germs.”

Steiner suggested a better study would compare “doctors’ ties with other articles of clothing they wear” compared to another study of “well-dressed doctors [working] without ties for two weeks,” then check for a “change in the overall risk of infection.”

Why not take this one a few steps further, all the way to banning doctors from wearing clothes — no scrubs, no white lab coats, no dangerous dangling ties (underwear optional).

Before you think this is all a bizarre joke, keep in mind Obamacare is following closely in the footsteps of the U.K.’s failed socialized medical programs. The U.K. banned white coats and ties in 2008.

  1. What? No one knows how to use a tie clip anymore?

  2. I don’t want to tell you “I TOLD YOU SO” however the MARXIST NIGHTMARE HAS JUST BEGUN!!!

But the NHS allows Muslim nurses and doctors to cover their forearms with sleeves–a practice known to spread bacteria including superbugs–they are exempt from the bare below the elbow policy to prevent infectious disease spread. Muslims are allowed to do anything to anyone at anytime without any consequences.

  4. Everybody should be assigned a full-time government aide – you know, just to help out around the house.

  5. What is intersting to me…My mother passed away at Cedar Sinai Hospital 10 years ago from an infection. She had NO infection when she went in there..28 days later she was dead..while she was there, she was treated by the best infectious disease specialist in the country. They couldn’t figure out why, in the best hospital on the West Coast, she would get so sick..(she had a cracked hip)..I know why now.
The hospital staff frequently purchases coffee across the street in a coffee shop where homeless, filthy, people use the milk and cream left out for customers of the coffee shop to top their coffees with..the hospital associates run over to the coffee shop in their scrubs, run back to the hospital and see patients. They handshake ‘hello’ with the patients, they walk back into operating roomswith the same scrubs on..the ties? Who cares? The whole person-doctor-nurse-attendant-nurses aide-all of them should be required to walk through a germ killing booth, put on new protective clothing-not just plastic gloves..they should be required to cover their entire body with a new sheet each and every time they move from room to room-they should not be allowed back into the hospital wearing the same scrubs they wear outside..
    This is a no brainer.
