Saul Alinsky would have been 100 years old on January 30 had he lived.
“Saul Alinsky, the father of community organizing, had a big year in 2008, even though he had been dead for 36 years. And 2009, Alinsky’s centennial, is off to a terrific start. Just ten days before Alinsky’s 100th birthday, his community organizing disciple was sworn in as president,” Alinsky biographer Sanford D. Horwitt wrote January 29 at HuffPo.
Now we find on the Donors Forum calendar the news that the Woods Fund of Chicago plans to commemorate Alinsky some more fall 2009:
- The Woods Fund of Chicago is planning to commemorate Saul Alinsky’s 100th birthday with a two-day symposium this fall. The event will explore the history of community organizing in Chicago, as well as celebrate the diverse accomplishments of current organizing efforts. A special emphasis will be placed on youth organizing and innovative strategies, including the use of racial justice and human rights perspectives.
Hmmm. The guest speaker will be ___________?
