One would think that after the reception of the bailout last fall (Congress being swamped with nay-sayers, according to some source 10-1 no Dem rep & 100-1 Rep rep) they’d gotten the idea but alas, as PSBHO said, ”I won” (looking at the brightside: the Narcissist In Chief doesn’t use the royal ‘we’). With banks not writing off their toxic assets this bailout-crap can take a long time.
Concerning this side of the pond: only abt 15 years ago the Dutch government had its own bank, the Postbank (as it started as an arm of the Royal Mail). Then it got privatized, gobbled up last summer by ING, and now ING is set to get a 2nd 10 billion Euro bailout effectively nationalizing the whole pile (ING’s worth is now only 11 billion) again. One can’t help but wonder if this doesn’t say smth abt. the privatizing craze we experienced in the 90’s
over here.

The “I won” remark has also shown up in a New York Post story; apparently PSBHO warned GOP that they should not listen to coherent Rush Limbaugh if they want to lose their TOKEN (‘I won so I get mny way’) presence . What also grabbed me was that The Post seems to think this is all perfectly allright : “Not that Obama was gloating. He was just explaining that he aims to get his way on stimulus package and all other legislation, sources said, noting his unrivaled one-party control of both congressional chambers. ” Just explaining. The guy could deliver a freaking horse head on Limbaugh’s bed and the MSM would call it ‘just explaining’. Seems Gibbs is the source.

Since the Democratic Party has turned into the party of Hot Mess Celebrity Thugs from its leader to their failed Senator candidates, pop culture mechanism have caught my eye as of late. http://www.perezhilton.com is a site now of my watch list since they pushed the Obama marketing campaign heavily. Today I see this post – http://perezhilton.com/2009-01-24-michelle-obama-just-cant-catch-a-break – but most interesting to read are the comments. Definitely click in and read all the mixed messages the Obama campaign has represented to this yound audience. I firmly believe campaigning based on segmentation will in the end go from mixed message to caos to anger to demanding ‘what we were promised’ for our vote. Our financial woes may pale in comparison to our social uprising if Der Leader doesn’t get this under control.

On the How Long To P.O. scale PSBHO has another notch to add: China was not amused, to say the least, an annointment by The One said China was ‘manipulating its currency’ (which amounts to saying:’no prefered trade partner’ etc.), with predictable results

BTW, the Dutch-Luxembourg newsstation RTL has stated PSBHO has signed federal funding for embryonic stemcell research ( http://www.rtl.nl/(/actueel/rtlnieuws/buitenland/articleview/)/components/actueel/rtlnieuws/2009/01_januari/24/buitenland/0124_0915_Obama_stamcelonderzoek_abortus.xml ) promptly taken over by other Belgian & Dutch press. HOWEVER, this conflicts with the (more accurate I guess) American press releases on this issue.
