Oh, that wickedly smart bard, Shakespeare!
Ripped from the pages of enotes.com comes this explanation for Lady Macbeth’s oft-quoted quote:
The hour is two o’clock; she upbraids her husband for his bad conscience; she insists that there will be nothing to fear once they’ve grabbed the crown; she marvels at how much blood Duncan had to shed. As Lady Macbeth replays this scene for the eavesdroppers, she not only incriminates herself, but also reveals the pangs of conscience she had ridiculed in her husband.
Do we have shades of Blago, Burris and The One here?
Think upon it.
The Chicago Tribune reported this morning from Springfield:
In a historic vote, the Illinois House has impeached Gov. Rod Blagojevich (right with PEBO), directing the Senate to put the state’s 40th chief executive on trial with the goal of removing him from office. The vote by the House was 114-1 and marks the first time in the state’s 190-year history that a governor has been impeached, despite Illinois’ longstanding reputation for political corruption. [...]
A Blagojevich spokesman said the governor will not resign.
Good for him!
Michelle Malkin commented:
Indeed, we’re nowhere near the finish line. But I prefer arts analogies to sports ones. The curtain opens on the next act of Blago Impeachment Theater at 3pm Eastern today, when Blago holds a press conference.
Get yer popcorn ready. I expect this one will be more entertaining that Burris’s last media appearance.
At first, Ed Morrissey at Hot Air responded with:
My heart-ache is sincere. The circus is leaving town.
Then, apparently, Ed had second thoughts and wrote:
Why would he resign? He just got done rolling Harry Reid, and Fitzgerald’s indictment is still months away. I’m not even sure what the charges against him in the impeachment trial will be at this point. Supposedly he can no longer perform the duties of governor effectively. Really? He was effective enough to make the entire U.S. Senate choke on the [Roland] Burris (left with Blago) appointment.
Watch this clip from MSNBC:
Plus, Ed leaves us with his “Exit Question”:
They need two-thirds of the state senate to convict him. If he beats the rap, will public opinion start to turn pro-Blago? He’s the ultimate outlaw/survivor/anti-hero. Blagojevich in 2016!
And, as Chicago blogger Bill Baar wrote early this morning, “Illinois needs Blagojevich’s trial”:
Don’t resign Governor. Illinois and America need to hear your story. Your side of what’s happened. You didn’t Govern alone. What you ever you’ve done, you’ve had plenty of friends and partners along the way.
We still have no idea what the plumbers were looking for when they burglarized the Watergate. Nixon’s resignation and pardon assured America would never hear that story.
Illinois shouldn’t repeat that mistake in the name of healing and rebuilding.
Let the trial begin and let the Senate take it’s time with it so the full story is told.

To me Blago is the best thing that happened in this country in a long time. We are being educated to many new things while smiling all the way through it. I will miss Blago…he may have turned into the most honest person in government.
Blago needs some cheering up…he needs to know that we want to hear his side of the story.
Act I, chapter 2, all of it.
Let it all play out before the public. but let it be Hamlet.
“The play’s the thing wherein [to] catch the conscience of a king [president-elect].”
innocent till proven guilty, let the gov tell all he knows! No more trials by public opinion, with the MSM being judge, jury & executor!
