Changes to change.gov (Updated 5x)

November 10, 2008 by Procrustes

RBO could use an army of h/t elves to keep up with the antics and changes to CHANGE.GOV, the web presence of the “Office of the President-Elect”.

Any takers?

It could be a full-time job.

Might even count towards your community service requirement. College students may get as much as $40 an hour towards their education. You could share in that “redistribution of wealth” the Dems are suddenly so keen on.

No takers. Don’t worry, we understand.

Thanks to GOP Mom we learn this morning that change.gov has — Surprise! — changed.

Golly gee! It’s been a grand total of 3 whole days since RBO first wrote about the new website change.gov and already it has undergone the usual Obamatron webscrubbing.

Remember that helpful navigation menu at the bottom of the page that showed “The Agenda”? GONE!

Here’s the before, with the screenshot taken on November 7, 2008:

changegov-menu1

And here’s the after, with the screenshot taken today, November 10, 2008, at 10:00 ET:

screenshot_2008-11-10_09-56-55

Oh, and “The Agenda”? Well, the link has been moved to the navbar and here’s what you get when you click on it. A wee bit short on details, isn’t it.

screenshot_2008-11-10_09-58-03

There is also a new section called “Privacy Policy”. There’s nothing at all unusual about the logging of visitors’ IP addresses but RBO thought we should pass this along as an FYI:

privacy-browser-info-2008-11-10

GOP Mom commented:

It’s public information, so why the big cover-up? Is the not-in-office-yet, as The One keeps reminding all those Liberals champing at the bit, not even President-elect, having difficulty handling all the questions and criticisms? He can’t possibly prefer questions about his social calendar, seeing as he flubbed the “Have you spoken to any other Presidents yet” question. Did he think the actual job was as easy as getting the job? Wow, we are in trouble.

Update 1: Before we move on, RBOer RV shares some startling news — the Washington Times actually noticed — Agenda disappears from Obama Website — and they used the word “scrubbed”:

Over the weekend President-elect Barack Obama scrubbed Change.gov, his transition Web site, deleting most of what had been a massive agenda copied directly from his campaign Web site.

Gone are the promises on how an Obama administration would handle 25 different agenda items – everything from Iraq and immigration to taxes and urban policy – all items laid out on his campaign Web site, www.BarackObama.com.

Instead, the official agenda on Change.gov has been boiled down to one vague paragraph proclaiming a plan “to revive the economy, to fix our health care, education, and social security systems, to define a clear path to energy independence, to end the war in Iraq responsibly and finish our mission in Afghanistan, and to work with our allies to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, among many other domestic and foreign policy objectives.”

Now here’s the rich part of the Times story:

“We are currently retooling the Web site,” said Obama spokesman Nick Shapiro.

The site went active on Wednesday and was available to the public Thursday. The agenda items, which were active for at least part of the weekend, appear to have been deleted by late Saturday.

Think about it. Obama knew that he had the election in the bag for how many months? Easy to figure out when you know that you’ve won bought it with millions of illegal foreign contributions. The Deaniac web team has been on the job since April 2004. And, after two or three days they are “retooling”?

Puh-leeze, folks, do you really think that we’re THAT DUMB?

Update 2: Now, for proof that today’s was not the most recent Obamatronic webscrub we turn to Tom Blumer at NewsBusters, who posted Obama’s ‘Service in College’ Program at Change.gov Promises $40 an Hour on November 8, 2008.

Blumer links to BizzyBlog, which has the full capture of the original page on November 8, 2008 (with another update yesterday, November 9, 2008):

First, “The Problem”:

bizzyblog-the-problem

Second, “Barack Obama and Joe Biden’s Plan”:

bizzblog-engage-all-americansagenda-service-bizzyblogbizzblog-invest1

Can you say “community organizer”, Woods Fund, Joyce Foundation, Small Schools Project, Chicago Annenberg Challenge, ACORN, etc. etc. etc.????

Update 3: The question has also came up on other blogs as to the source of this “American dream” quote at the top of the Agenda page:

bizzblog-america-serves-quote

It comes from Obama’s July 2, 2008, “A New Era of Service” speech delivered at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs:

There is a lesson to be learned from generations who have served – from soldiers and sailors; airmen and Marines; suffragists and freedom riders; teachers and doctors; cops and firefighters. It’s the lesson that in America, each of us is free to seek our own dreams, but we must also serve a common purpose, a higher purpose. When you choose to serve – whether it’s your nation, your community, or simply your neighbor – you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That is why this is a great nation. Because time and again, Americans have been willing to serve on stages both great and small; to draw on the same spirit that launched America’s improbable journey to meet the challenges of each defining moment in our history.

The final sentence, “That’s why it’s called the American dream,” as you can see, did not follow in Obama’s speech and was obviously added. In fact, the words “American dream” do not even appear within this speech. Another Obama refinement.

Update 4: Apparently, as MacRanger reports, Gateway Pundit discovered that the webscrubbing began on November 7, 2008. MacRanger also noted yesterday that “The Agenda” links were gone and preserved Obama’s “Plan for Iraq”, which has also disappeared. Here’s the text that was on the change.gov website:

Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe we must be as careful getting out of Iraq as we were careless getting in. Immediately upon taking office, Obama will give his Secretary of Defense and military commanders a new mission in Iraq: ending the war. The removal of our troops will be responsible and phased, directed by military commanders on the ground and done in consultation with the Iraqi government. Military experts believe we can safely redeploy combat brigades from Iraq at a pace of 1 to 2 brigades a month that would remove them in 16 months. That would be the summer of 2010 – more than 7 years after the war began.

Under the Obama-Biden plan, a residual force will remain in Iraq and in the region to conduct targeted counter-terrorism missions against al Qaeda in Iraq and to protect American diplomatic and civilian personnel. They will not build permanent bases in Iraq, but will continue efforts to train and support the Iraqi security forces as long as Iraqi leaders move toward political reconciliation and away from sectarianism.

Bogger DSM at Reboot Congress suggests:

I’d recommend that you guys port the change.gov site to a wiki. That will allow everyone to see the sausage being made—the historical edits to each page. Open government is a very good thing and it will prevent the new administration from being painted as Orwellian.

RBO: Fat chance of that.

Update 5: RBOers send along some more pre-webscrub change.gov links:

Here’s a text copy of the Agenda links at change.gov, as well as a pdf link to the same text.

Here’s a screen grab of the Urban Policy page of the original Agenda.

It is now time to actually WORK at a job for more than a year or two. There is nothing left to run for, BHO has been elected into the highest office on the planet… unless the UN and/or EU creates a new position for him, perhaps DEAREST LEADER OF THE WORLDWIDE COLLECTIVE.

  2. on November 10, 2008 at 12:59 pm SFIndiePUMA

I found this interesting. Under “America Serves”, there is this quote (I presume from The Pretender):
“When you choose to serve — whether it’s your nation, your community or simply your neighborhood — you are connected to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans. That’s why it’s called the American dream.”

First of all, the word “choose” (emphasis mine) seems to be at odds with this statement, “…setting a goal that all middle school and high school students do 50 hours of community service a year… Did he forget to add the words “choose to” before “do 50 hours”? Because it sure doesn’t sound like a choice to me.

And that whole bit about the American dream being wanting “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans”? Not that I wouldn’t want everyone to have those rights – they are part of the Declaration of Independence, after all – but to be honest, that’s not really MY American dream. (But then, I’m one of those bitter, angry, old, work-for-a-living white women who didn’t drink the kool-aid.) MY American dream is keeping a roof over my family’s head, food on the table, clothes on their back, bills paid, and hopefully not having to work until I drop dead behind some desk.

May you all achieve your version of the American dream, too. Just don’t do it on the backs of the rest of us.

SFIndiePUMA, it initially said that middle school, high school, and college volunteerism would be required.

“Required” volunteerism was then scrubbed and the word “goal” was put in, so that is why it might be reading as awkward.

A government cannot “require” or force children and young adults (or anybody) to work under their plans…it goes against the 13th amendment which prohibits involuntary servitude.

    kat-
Why should the 13th amendment matter when the the rest of the constitution is just wall paper now? Unless, The Usurper is stopped before Jan. 6th of ‘09, that is exactly what the constitution will be.

I saw a fair portion of the Jarrett interview, until my stomach began to turn sour…

My wife and I both looked at each other when Jarrett spit out the “take power” and “rule” words. She showed us her Freudian slip, and it wasn’t a pretty sight.

BTW, Obama’s July 2, 2008, “A New Era of Service” speech delivered at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, is the speech BO talked about that ‘civilian security force just as strong, just as powerful, just as well-funded’; they srcubbed it from the transcript BUT all of this does IMO mean that the two policies (mandatory community service – civilian defense force) are interlinked.

Derk Jan Eppink (formerly a high-up EU bureacrat) wrote in the well-read Dutch ‘Elsevier’ magazine (nov 8th) that BO’s plan as a whole seems remarkably similar to Francois Mitterand’s ‘110 proposals’ in 1981 (more influence labor unions, higher welfare checks, higher taxation of ‘the rich’, trade protectionism, public spending programs, higher minimuwage) , when there also was a recession. The result within a short time (he came May 1981 in power): catastrophic national debt-increase, unemployment and inflation, capital fled from France, and by 1983 Mitterand was in total despair. Gee wonder why the Dow dived.

Wonder if these people wear knee pads with all the scrubbing they do. It’ll be a wonder to see if anyone else in the Country wakes up or if they along with Chris Tingle will continue to rationalize away the inconvinent truth about Obama, ie he lies.

A government cannot “require” or force children and young adults (or anybody) to work under their plans…it goes against the 13th amendment which prohibits involuntary servitude.

Oh it won’t be “forced” exactly, it’s just that they’ll they’ll lay the building blocks in place first – requirements to get into colleges for example. It won’t be about your grades or your SAT scores, if you haven’t “served” the requisite community service you simply won’t be admitted.

So you’ll ‘choose.’ Parents will make sure their kids ‘follow the rules’ so they ‘meet all the requirements.’

It will be voluntary. Only – not.

That’s how the Ayres’/Obama plans work.

GOP Congressman Warns of Obama Dictatorship

[A Republican congressman from Georgia said Monday he fears that President-elect Obama will establish a Gestapo-like security force to impose a Marxist or fascist dictatorship.

"It may sound a bit crazy and off base, but the thing is, he's the one who proposed this national security force," Rep. Paul Broun said of Obama in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I'm just trying to bring attention to the fact that we may — may not, I hope not — but we may have a problem with that type of philosophy of radical socialism or Marxism."

Broun cited a July speech by Obama that has circulated on the Internet in which the then-Democratic presidential candidate called for a civilian force to take some of the national security burden off the military.

"That's exactly what Hitler did in Nazi Germany and it's exactly what the Soviet Union did," Broun said. "When he's proposing to have a national security force that's answering to him, that is as strong as the U.S. military, he's showing me signs of being Marxist."]

finally, a rep with guts & a spine!! (thumbsup)

  15. on November 11, 2008 at 10:23 am SayitAin'tSoJoe

Broun is coming a little late to the party isn’t he? Where were these people during the campaigns? If the GOP had taken each of Obama’s “plans” and layed out how socialistic they were it would have kept Obama on the defense and possibly opened some eyes.

It’s not like RBO and others weren’t pointing out what was going to happen with an Obama administration.

IF any of Obama’s plans which scream of socialism get passed each and every one of us can thank those spineless wonders who have been elected to office on both sides of the aisle.

Hey, I’m trying to take up that job of keeping track of the change.gov website as well as writing about Obama flip-flops. So far all I have is a page on change.gov that isn’t finished, but inbetween school and work it takes a while!

It’s a wiki, though, so I could sure use some help! I’m glad I found this blog, it will be a good tool to help write about Obama’s changes and reversals. Thanks!

  • New Obama Era Over

"And in November 2008, with the election of Barack Obama and increased congressional majorities, it seemed to be over. A new era had dawned.

"But did it? Maybe we're now experiencing a liberal interlude, not a liberal inflection point. After all, only six months into the new administration, even a talented hot air blower like President Obama, assisted by friendly gusts of wind from the media, is having trouble keeping the liberal blimp afloat.

"The stimulus hasn't worked. Cap-and-trade and health care reform are in trouble. The can't-we-all-get-along foreign policy isn't leading to a more peaceful world. And the administration seems to have no idea what to do about Guantánamo.

"Congressional Democrats are nervous. Even Obama's media base is concerned. At the end of last week, three leading Obamaphiles offered their lamentations. [...]

"Why such long faces? Because they realize that, despite the financial meltdown on the Bush administration's watch and the errors of omission and commission by the GOP over the last decade, the American public hasn't fundamentally rethought their turn in 1980 away from big government liberalism."--William Kristol, TWS, 7/20.
